    An outsider’s view reshapes an industry

    When Mike Herrera co-founded CoolVu, he wasn’t coming from a window film background. That, he says, gave him a unique edge.

    “Coming in as an outsider gave me a clear advantage—I wasn’t tied to how things had always been done,” Herrera explains. “I looked at what customers actually wanted and questioned the usual assumptions.”

    That fresh outlook helped CoolVu grow quickly, expanding to over 120 franchise territories across the country.

    Before CoolVu, Herrera spent 30 years scaling franchise brands, a background that shaped his leadership approach.

    “Success comes down to three things: people first, discipline and simplicity, and vision with urgency,” he says.

    These lessons helped him grow CoolVu fast, while keeping the focus on culture, systems, and supporting franchisees.

    “Growth is exciting,” Herrera says, “but it also brings pressure to maintain standards and stay true to who we are.”

    Spotting a Market Opportunity

    CoolVu is quickly gaining attention as the brand brings new energy to an under-the-radar industry.

    Herrera describes the window film market as full of potential, with high demand for solutions in energy efficiency, safety, and sustainability, but lacking strong national brands.

    “The market was wide open,” he says. “Schools needed safer windows. Businesses wanted lower energy costs. Homeowners were looking for comfort. We saw that gap and built CoolVu to fill it.”

    Focused Growth Ahead

    CoolVu’s goal is to reach 300 franchise locations by 2027, but not at the cost of quality. Herrera says the company is selective about new franchisees and puts a strong focus on training and support.

    “We’re building something long-term,” he says. “Not just selling franchises but creating value in every market we enter.”

    Herrera believes demand for window film will only grow, especially for those looking to save money, feel safer, and upgrade their spaces without major renovations.
